Gabe Whitbread is a Postdoctoral Fellow with Duke University’s Arete Initiative. She holds a PhD in Justice, Law and Society from American University, where she also helped to run both the Political Theory Institute and the Lincoln Scholars program. Her research centers on Enlightenment-era thought and the evolution of liberal theory. Gabe also studies the contemporary philosophical debate on the ethics of punishment and asks how classical liberal principles can guide present-day criminal justice reform.
